The Selfie Gallery
The Peak Tower, Hong Kong
2019
Interactive café and gelateria
A café at the top of Hong Kong where the interior is designed to be photographed.
The space splits into two rooms joined by a pixellated partition. The White Gallery is minimal — an oversized coffee cup spills magnetic liquid across the floor, reflecting coloured neon above. The Deconstructed Ice-Cream Room is the opposite: an inverted strawberry ice cream set in a bed of macaroons, waffle-textured walls, and a floor cast from resin embedded with sprinkles.
Every surface is a potential backdrop. Lightboxes, oversized everyday objects, and shifting textures create a sequence of distinct photo opportunities as visitors move through the space. The products — colourful gelato, selfie-printed coffees — are part of the scenography, not separate from it.
The gallery is designed for two audiences simultaneously: the people inside it and the people who see it on their phones afterward.
